A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Dr. Smith received her medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed an internship and residency in Gynecology and Obstetrics at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, followed by a fellowship in Gynecology and Oncology at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina. Dr. Smith was on the Medical school faculty as a Gynecologic Oncologist at the University of Virginia for three years prior to moving to Austin to begin her practice.

The author of thirteen publications, she is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Gynecologic Oncology. She is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists and is on the board of directors of the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation. Dr. Smith is married to University of Texas Professor, Dr. Alan Campion, and has two daughters. She is in private practice with Southwest Regional Cancer Center in Austin.
