An honor graduate, Dr. Melear received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin. A member of the Alpha Lamda Delta Honor Society, Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, and Alpha Epsilon Delta Honor Society; he received his medical degree from Texas Tech University School of Medicine. Continuing his postgraduate training, Dr. Melear did his medical residency and fellowship in Medical Oncology at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas. He has received many awards including Most Outstanding Student in Internal Medicine and Outstanding Student in Surgery and is an active Board Member for the Brackenridge Institutional Review Board.

Also an active researcher, Dr. Melear is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. He is a member of the Texas Medical Association, American Society of Clinical Oncology and is in practice with the Southwest Regional Cancer Center.
