A graduate of Stanford University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha honor society, Dr. Aung received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. After completing an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, he completed a fellowship in Medical Oncology at the University of California at San Diego.

Following his postgraduate training, Dr. Aung was in private practice with the West Texas Blood & Cancer Center in El Paso. Dr. Aung is a published author, clinical researcher and a member of several professional organizations including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Medial Association, Texas Medical Association, and Travis County Medical Society. He is in private practice with the Southwest Regional Cancer Center in Austin and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology.
